The Mess

Believe it or not, there aren’t many places on the net where genuine people with similar backgrounds can come together in a state of trust and openness to meet, share stories, laughs, fears, concerns, build friendships and then leave feeling a bit happier.

Military Network is a Buddy System…We are all military people, serving or former. This is your Mess so call in anytime and tell us what’s on your mind.

It’s pretty amazing that throughout the world military folk tend to be pretty similar in outlook, regardless of the politics and politicians around us. Hail the ANZACS- loyal & true, and always good for a beer! Happy Gnu Ears!

Happy New Year to all! Question – does anyone think that the economy is starting to pick up steam as the MSM (Main Stream Media) say, or are they just trying to be politically correct? I sure don’t see it here in the (once) great motor city!

Happy holidays all my military brothers and sisters! Thank you for all that you have scraficed for this great country of ours.

Ken Miller – I don’t see it picking up. I think there was a Christmas rush, but I see that dying out and we will be back to where we were a few months ago. I truly don’t see it getting much better until maybe late 2010.

Happy New Year to everyone, thanks for serving.

@ Ken M…I would be interested to hear further responses to your question. What I am observing globally is a state of inertia.

@ Ken H…Thanks Ken and to you all for your sacrifices for our country and some many others. It is an honor and a privilege to be part of a universal brotherhood.

Scott…”Vetrepreneur”! Now THAT term has LEGS!…In fact, I am in the process of recording a video series “Veteran Entrepreneur” for our website http://www.earlnightingale.com.au/military_network/ as part of a new-year campaign to help inspire/re-inspire veteran business owners or those contemplating business. We are also driving a campaign to create a ‘Veteran Market’, where veterans support veterans, sourcing and supporting veteran-owned businesses to ensure that they not only survive but can grow in this crisis market. The concept is coming together. Todd Phillips, co-host of Military Network Radio, http://www.earlnightingale.com.au/military_network/military-network-radio and I have invited a number of veteran entrepreneurs to participate in ‘Featered Veteran’ interviews, where they will also get front-page feature. How would you feel about participating and also helping us to drive this?

Scott – Thanks for the response. That’s pretty much how I see it. A drop in the number of first-time unemployment claims doesn’t seem to me like a sign that the economy is turning around. People are still being laid off!

    P.S. Thanks for your sevice.

Hate to be the cold water in the face. I do not see it turning anytime soon. Here in Southern Calif they are talking another 10-15 years to get back to anything close to employment and housing numbers.
I am a statistic. Lost my home (do not trust IndyMac) to a coniving group of bankers. The ‘right’ hand told me to do one thing and the ‘left’ hand forclosed on me. I have many words for the group at IndyMac and Bank west one. Foremost they are thieves. All they want is the TARP money. I got that from of the their reps.
We are moving out of California for good. Anywhere is better than here. Had to vent.
Forget about my senators as both of them are anti-vet.

Larry, this is terrible news…I am saddened at your loss and equally saddened to learn that banks continue to be populated by the same personality types that drove the world into this mess, namely, Avarice, Hubris and Narcissm…These people have absolutely no principles…

I understand your situation…Several years ago, I fell victim to the same personality type, being my Financial Controller, known by his previous employer…my Bank…as an embezzler. I lost my business, home, several million dollars, the result of a life-times work, sacrifice and risk-taking by my wife and I. Ended up pennyless at age 45…However, I accepted, in this instance, unlike your situation, full responsibility…forgave him (from a human not a religious perspective), which started the healing process and we then began the task of rebuilding. This process actually resulted an amazing new journey and I remain in awe at the wonderful things life truly has to offer. More importantly I learned that failure is all part of our evolution as individuals and that ’speed’ of recovery and focus on our goals is critical.

Larry, I am confident that you and other military people have what it takes to recover…

Please keep us all informed as your new journey unfolds.

Wishing you and your loved ones every happiness and new successes in 2010.

Folks, can anyone offer advice/guidance to Steve Richey about his problem?

    From: STEVE RICHEY [mailto:d9dozer@verizon.net]

I’ve spent probably 30 hours trying to get to someone who I can actually talk toabout a stimulus small business loan…that Pres. Obama keeps telling everyone are the loans he wants to make… and there is no way in hell you can decipher or get past the all the screens and to where I need to make my application…. right now I’m trying a registered bank that makes SBA loans…and I think they are going to be about the same.

I hear loans, grants, and stimulus money…but I can’t get to it…. it’ s really bad! I’ve heard Obama was upset because the money isn’t getting out to businesses…and it’s because there is no path to make an application..

if there’s a way, I’d like to find it.

To Financial Advisers – Can you please assist? Thanks, Steve

“My husband is in the National Guard. We opened our business in October of 2008. It’s been a struggle to start the business, and he just left for a 13 month deployment. I’m left trying to do my full-time job (not family business), and run the family business (aside from the usual mom/dad/house things). Unfortunately, we’re financially struggling and I’m at a loss as to what to do next. I had to hire people to work the hours my husband would normally work, and we even closed the store all but three days a week. We own a running store, selling shoes and accessories. I don’t have the money to purchase more merchandise and advertise, so it seems like I’m sitting in limbo, except for the bills I have to pay.

Let me know what other info you might need. I’d be happy to get any help you can offer.”
